Service Description
Course Description: Human Trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery. Victims of Human Trafficking are young children, teenagers, men and women. Most police think - “It doesn’t happen in my town.” but it happens more than most think. Almost all underage prostitutes are victims. Victims of Human Trafficking are subjected to force, fraud, or coercion, for the purpose of sexual exploitation or forced labor. After drug dealing, trafficking of humans is tied with arms dealing and is the fastest growing. Course Objectives: • What is & is not Human Trafficking (HT) - Who, What, Where, Why, and How • How victims are chosen and how to identify Human Trafficking • How to act and provide support when a HT situation has been identified, including legal and immigration issues, language barriers, shelter/ housing and providing food for victims • How local law enforcement can develop and maintain relationships with victim services • Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the resources that can be provided by building these partnerships • Specific information about emerging trends in HT Recommended Audience: Patrol officers, investigators, victim assistance professionals, shelter staff, DA’s, Judges, counselors, EMS, medical, emergency room professionals, etc.
